50 Most Essential CD's ??

Reading digg this morning I stumbled across this list of the 50 most essential cd's since 2001. Normally I don't put too much into these sort of things, but I gave it a cursory glance. I noticed the had The Roots - Phrenology at 49, since I love this album (and think it was criminally slept on) I continued reading... Then I see the last two Wilco records at #16 and #4. Since I rarely find myself going two days without listening to either Wilco, Jeff Tweedy, or The Roots I completely agree (maybe not with the rankings but that's another story....).

If anyone reading this wants to download some legal music by these groups check out: The Roots at therootslive.com or Wilco, Tweedy (among others) at etree (etree assumes you know how to use bit torrent).

I also noticed this morning that Tweedy's playing in Milwaukee on October 30th... hmm....

BarCampMilwaukee Recap

Well, here it is: the first post on a brand-spanking new blog. Why am I subjecting myself (and others!) to my individual brand of schizophrenic writings...

The main reason I decided to join the masses (by creating a blog) is the people I met at BarCampMilwaukee last weekend (Sept 30-Oct 1).

BarCampMilwaukee (BCM) was graciously hosted by the folks at BucketWorks. Bucketworks is a great space, a physical wiki of sorts. I'm jealous we don't have something similar in Madison (at least that I'm aware of). I led two session at BCM:

  • An Intro to Drupal
  • Drupal Development Basics

In addition I attended sessions on Ruby on Rails, VOIP on Asterisk, Network Packet Analysis, First Robotics, Non-Profit Technology, Played some Werewolf, A Mini-Mash Pit, Microformats, Adventures in Web Publishing, Virtual Government, ending with more Non-Profit Tech talk.

Some of the people I met, or I saw at multiple sessions:

For those of you who like pictures there are photos on Flickr.

Needless to say it was an exhausting weekend. I'm still decompressing in some ways... I (among others) have committed to organizing a BarCamp in Madison. Apparently we've got a site (!) already. Hopefully we'll have a wiki and mailing list setup by the end of next week to get the ball rolling.
